ปโรตเป็นอสูรเทวบุตรที่มีฤทธิ์ในบทละครเรื่องรามเกียรติ์ อาศัยอยู่ในวิมานแก้วและมีคันศรเป็นอาวุธ วันหนึ่งปโรตเห็นนางมณีเมขลาออกมาเล่นแก้วมณีจึงอยากได้แก้วนั้นและเข้าแย่งจากนาง แต่นางเมขลาใช้แก้วหลอกล่อจนปโรตแย่งไม่ได้ ด้วยความโกรธปโรตจึงแผลงศรไปแต่ก็ไม่ถูกนาง ขณะนั้นรามสูรเห็นปโรตเหาะไล่นางเมขลาก็อยากได้แก้วนั้นบ้างจึงตามนางไป นางเห็นอสูรทั้งสองตามชิงแก้วจึงยั่วให้ไล่ตาม ทำให้เกิดฝนตกหนัก ฟ้าแลบ และฟ้าผ่า

พระพรตเสร็จศึกมลิวันแล้วยกทัพกลับเมือง ทรงเห็นฝนตกหนักเพราะเมขลา รามสูร และปโรตไล่กัน จึงกริ้วจะแผลงศรไปสังหาร แต่พิเภกซึ่งตามเสด็จพระพรตมาด้วยได้ทูลทัดทานไว้ว่า ปรากฏการณ์ดังกล่าวเป็นธรรมดาโลก ขอให้แผลงศรไปไล่พลาหกเทวบุตร (เมฆฝน) อย่าให้ฝนตกใกล้ ๆ ที่จะเดินทัพ เมื่อพระพรตแผลงศร เมขลา รามสูร และปโรตก็หนีไป ฝนจึงหยุดทำให้พระพรตสามารถเดินทางต่อไปได้

Parot is a powerful demon deity in the Ramakien drama. He resides in a crystal palace and wields a bow and arrow as his weapon. One day, Parot saw Mekhala angel come out to play with her crystal gem, so he desired the gem and tried to snatch it from her. However, Mekhala angel used the gem to deceive and lure him, preventing Parot from seizing it. In his anger, Parot shot arrows at her but missed. At that moment, Ramsoon saw Parot flying after Mekhala angel and also wanted the gem, so he followed her as well. Seeing both demons chasing after her gem, the angel teased them to pursue her, causing heavy rain, lightning, and thunder.

After Lord Phrot finished the battle with Malivun and was leading his army back to the city, he saw the heavy rain caused by Mekhala, Ramsoon, and Parot chasing each other. He became angry and was about to shoot arrows to kill them. However, Pipek, who was accompanying Lord Phrot, respectfully objected, saying that such phenomena are natural occurrences in the world. He requested that Lord Phrot shoot arrows to drive away Phalahok Thewabut (rain clouds) so that rain would not fall near the army's path. When Lord Phrot shot his arrows, Mekhala, Ramsoon, and Parot fled. The rain then stopped, allowing Lord Phrot to continue his journey."

น่าเสียดายที่ในปัจจุบันตัวละครปโรตถูกตัดออกไปจากตำนาน ทำให้เรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับต้นกำเนิดของฝนตก ฟ้าร้อง ฟ้าผ่าไม่สมบูรณ์เหมือนเดิม คนไทยส่วนใหญ่จึงจำได้เพียงแค่ตัวละครเมขลาและรามสูรเท่านั้น ความรู้เกี่ยวกับตำนานดั้งเดิมที่มีองค์ประกอบครบถ้วนจึงค่อย ๆ สูญหายไป

It is unfortunate that nowadays the character Parot has been removed from the legend, making the story about the origin of rain, thunder, and lightning incomplete compared to its original form. Most Thai people only remember the characters Mekhala and Ramsoon. Knowledge of the original legend with all its complete elements is therefore gradually being lost.
